The Lion clan are famous for their prowess on the battlefield and their uncompromising adherence to the code of Bushido. In the last few weeks, we’ve seen the majority of their cards from the base set and have had an opportunity to play some games with the Lion deck facing up against the previously revealed Crane deck. This has given us some insights into how the Lion clan play and also some of the intricacies of the game overall. The Crane clan are the pinnacle of culture and refinement in Rokugan. Their Asahina as renowned for their artistry, the Kakita for their grace, the Doji for their poetry, and the Daidoji for their loyalty. The Crane clan, despite how they appear, are not without teeth. Beneath every Asahina work of art is a subtle air spell. The graceful Kakita kata hones their deadly blade. The Doji’s poetry conceals courtly games that ruin reputations. The loyal Daidoji bodyguard is equally skilled in misdirection and sabotage.

Currently, the Crane are a little bruised and battered from the recent tsunami which devastated their lands and from the rise of the Scorpion in the Imperial courts. Even then, the Crane clan know how to play the great game because they were the ones who set the rules in the first place.

On Friday 12th May FFG hosted a Livestream on Facebook where they answered a number of questions sent through to them. The Livestream was hosted by one of the FFG staff (not named) and included Katrina Ostrander the story lead for L5R, Brad Andres one of the designers of the FFG LCG, Nate French the senior LCG designer. The core set was designed by Nate, Brad, and Eric Dolman who was not at the Livestream. Below we’ve included some of the highlights from the discussion sorted into Mechanics, Storyline, and Gencon.

Legend of the Five Rings the Card Game is a game produced by Fantasy Flight Games which is set in a Fantasy world inspired by East Asian history. The game takes its name from the famous work of Asian Miyamoto Musashi‘s The Book of Five Rings. Musashi was a famous samurai who lived at the start of the Edo period of Japanese history. The book was split into 5 chapters named after the five Japanese elements earth, water, fire, wind, and void.
