Meta Check – EC Madrid

Meta Check – EC Madrid

We don’t normally cover Elemental Championships, but Madrid is currently running a 76 player tournament with Children of the Empire legal! So despite it being an EC, it is bigger than some of the Kotei we would normally cover and is an early insight into the new meta.

The event itself is up on Lotus Pavilion.

The event is being run by the Madrid Shop Padis.

Obviously, this isn’t the only event happening this week, just the biggest. Sheffield’s Patriot games also has a tournament this weekend with an impressive 36 players that we should be paying attention to.

End of 5 rounds of Swiss we have 2 Crane players undefeated. On 4-1 we have 7 players with 3 Scorpion, 2 Phoenix, 1 Dragon, 1 Unicorn.

Obviously, we need to see some of those decks before we draw any conclusions.

Cut is to top 16 which can be seen here on Lotus Pavilion. Reports suggest Gustavo Caperán was the final winner playing Phoenix.

The Sheffield event ended up similar with the same top 4 of Phoenix, Crane, Scorpion, and Dragon. Rob Smith took his 3rd EC playing Phoenix.

Seeing top 4s with 4 clans is pretty great. The top 8 had 7 clans represented with only Crab missing the list currently. It definitely feels like we’re in a time of experimentation with some pretty wild decks out there. Personally, if anyone claims they’ve worked out this meta within the next two weeks I’ll be taking those comments with a big pile of salt.

Evansville is having a 30 player EC which is up on Lotus Pavilion here. It looks like CotE has really invigorated the tournament scene and we’re seeing some exciting things out of it.

Videos of the Spanish semi-final and finals were posted on the Toku Records channel. That is a super active channel with lots of games that might be worth keeping an eye on for some insight into the Spanish meta.

Thanks to players posting in the comments we also have some deck lists.

16 Replies to “Meta Check – EC Madrid”

  1. 2 Crane players 5-0 are playing Dragon Spalsh with Mirumoto’s Fury as restricted and 8-9 conflict characters with 4 3fate drops in there (2 rival 2 iron warrior)
Ryoshi who made it 5-0 but conceded the last one is playing Isawa Mori Seido instead of Kyuden Isawa.

  2. Ill definetly try to get you the decks from the Madrid even, I know I ask for some of them personally and the rest shouldnt be hard to come by.

    1. Congrats on the great finish! Have you thought about what to change to improve the Phoenix matchup? Or are you happy your deck can beat Phoenix?
