Gencon Update – Day 1
We have some updates from the first day of Gencon!
Fantasy Flight posted their opening ceremony on Facebook. If you haven’t seen it already it is absolutely worth checking out. The Banzai!s from 700+ people is amazing.

We watched some of the games from home as DodgePodge from Peachhack was being a community hero (that we don’t deserve) and streamed some games throughout the tournament. His is a stream to keep checking over the weekend for more. For the most part, these were new players getting to grips with the game for the first time so there are play mistakes and confusion.
Also keep an eye on Team Covenant’s Facebook page where they are also planning to stream the panels and events for the weekend.

After 11 hours (including starting and finishing ceremonies) the first L5R tournament finished. There were a total of 22 new Hatamoto
- Unicorn: 0
- Scorpion: 2
- Crab: 3
- Crane: 1
- Lion: 3
- Phoenix: 5
- Dragon: 8

That is a really strong showing for Dragon and Phoenix. The main common theme for both clans is their balance of Military and Political. In this very limited environment, they are always able to threaten at least one province possibly two. It is disappointing to see 0 Unicorn, but it sounds like at least 3 went into the last round 4-0.
We now know a release date, the start of October 5th and we’ve seen the box for the first new pack.
Tears of Amaterasu features three copies of twenty new cards and expands on the theme found in the Core Set of the game. Offering new tools for all seven clans, as well as two new neutral provinces and new Conflict and Dynasty cards
