During our last Imperial Advisor podcast, the question was raised, who is going to win Worlds? The general consensus was that Crane is a serious contender, but I hedged my bets somewhat, suggesting that all clans apart from Unicorn had a shot. Let’s examine this a little more and have a look at some of the currently popular decks.
Last weekend the L5R community had a 90 player tournament in Athens. This was the first large tournament of the 40/40 format since the release of the game. As with all tournaments and any set of data, one should be cautious of drawing any conclusions. A lucky game in a bracket or some weird pairings can set something off. A reaction in the local meta to one strategy can make decks look strange when viewed in a vacuum. That said, let’s have some fun.
Although the new Legend of the Five Rings card game is only just about to come out, we’re already looking to the future. The Alderac version of the game survived for over 20 years and for many players it has been an important part of their life. We want this game to be strong and vibrant for at least another 20 years. The Fantasy Flight Games (FFG) Living Card Game (LCG) model has a lot of benefits, but over the years it has had some difficulties.
With the L5R Honored event last weekend, we saw an end to the competitive side of the single core environment. With that in mind, this article will look at the upcoming events and what the early environment might look like. Along with this, we have a starting decklist for each clan, to give a flavor of what might be.
Over the weekend London hosted the L5R Honored event. This was an invite only event similar to the Kiku Matsuri event. There were 100 competitors along with guests who came to spectate. At the end of the event, we had 3 more Hatamoto’s who were undefeated at the end of the five rounds.
Today we start with, what hopefully will be, a series of articles from contributor Tony Gleeson. Tony is a friend of the team who is starting fresh into Legend of the Five Rings. Reading his experiences will hopefully help other new players who wish to learn about this game and world we all love.
